The material, by nature, is dangerous, because inhaling fibers can cause serious health problems such as lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma, diseases that usually develop until fifty years after exposure has occurred.

Those most at risk are those who have come into contact with the fiber, as part of their work, and is the second most common risk to those living with those who are in contact due to work exposure, with about 80% of patients believed that as a direct result of occupational or para-professional.

The last group, who are at risk, are high risk due to geography. Those whose homes are near the sites, such as refineries, power plants, factories, construction sites and shipyards, which are often prone to asbestos on the premises, are at risk of developing asbestos-related diseases.
