These come in liquid form that is either poured directly on the traps or down the drains. They are also in a solid block form that is suspended over the receptacle and will slowly dissolve. An added benefit to these additives is that they will wash into the municipal treatment systems along with the water and continue working on the municipal waste.
An above ground receptacle can be cleaned out by the regular staff on site. They just need to scoop the congealed film on the top layer into garbage bags. Remove and clean the baffles, then remove the remaining debris on the bottom. The bypass vent can be cleaned with something flexible and long en ought to reach through. Disposal of the garbage bags can be made during regular trash pick up but verify with your local agency first. If they will not allow it to be picked up, then either contact a professional to dispose of or ask where it can be dumped at.

Some benefits of Grease trap cleaning are it keeps fats from clogging up public sewage lines. It also prevents back-ups from occurring inside the restaurant where the receptacle is located.
